HSM3 (aka "High School Musical 3" for those of you who aren't familiar with the pre-teen lingo)

Tonight then my roommates and I decided to venture out to the movie theater to watch High School Musical 3. Mary, Laura, and I went to see HSM3, while Kinsey and Emmilie watched some far inferior movie. The main reasons I went to see the movie were that first of all Mary insisted that we see it on opening night. Both Mary and I have an appreciation for the Disney channel that many others don't have, therefore thiswas an exciting night for her. She even bought tickets online several days ago to make sure the movie didn't sell out on us. The second reason I went to see the movie is that one of my BFF's was one of the background actors. Hooray for Rio Andrus...she is such a SUPERSTAR! But I got very excited when I saw her in a couple scenes of the movie...I told her the parts where I saw her, but she said there are several more scenes, so after she returns to Idaho we will have to have a party and she can point herself out...I am quite excited! 

The movie actually turned out to be really good. Although it was extremely cheesy, it is just one of those movies that makes you laugh/smile. The dancing in the movie was really good which I really loved. Also the songs were a lot of fun...hilarious...but really good. My favorite party of the movie was when Troy did an "angry dance"...it just reminded me of "Bret's angry dance" from Flight of the Conchords.....which is apparently making fun of an angry dance from Footloose. My roommates sometimes have angry dance parties during those stressful weeks....so I found it quite enjoyable!

Girls just wanna have fun!

Occasionally in my apartment we don't know how to spend our Friday nights.....so this particular weekend my roommate Mary and I decided to build a fort in the living room. It was a pretty great fort! good ventilation, structurally sound, practically perfect in every way. Unfortunately after sleeping in it for two nights in a row we were forced to take it down. But here are all the great memories made in the fort!

My very own Island

Today when I was watching Disney Channel, something was mentioned that had me thinking about private islands. I went straight to wikipedia to search for answers about my questions concerning private islands. Who do you buy them from? What about running water and electricity? How much do they cost? I actually learned a lot of information that I did not know about private islands. The main thing I learned is that I want one. 

I found a neat website privateislandsonline.com, and found myself the perfect little island. 

Here is Moss Cays, it is 3 acres in the Bahamas and includes a rustic home. Only 3 million dollars! Even though 3 million is a lot of money, it is substantially less than I thought my own private island would cost. 

Unfortunately the island is owned by the U.S. so I would be unable to form my own micronation, like some island owners do. I was also trying to figure out who people purchase an island from if it is not already owned by a nation. Do they purchase it from...planet Earth? Or is it up for grabs? So many questions that I cannot answer about private islands...All I know is I want one. It will be my motivation to do my homework (If I do my homework I'll be a success, successful people have money, money gets me my island). 

My trip to Provo/ conference

For conference weekend Daniel, his roommate Mitch, my roommates Mary and Laura, and I decided to hop in archibald and head down to Utah. Once we got down there I spent most of the weekend with Andrea and all of her friends. It was really fun to just get away from Rexburg and hang out with Andrea. On Saturday we took the TRAX down to Salt Lake and stood on the corner begging for conference tickets. I don't know how to beg, and felt extremely awkward, but we were still able to get tickets for the Saturday morning session. It was so amazing to actually get to go to conference, it was the first time I had been, so it was a brand new experience. Unfortunately I didn't get to take any pictures in Salt Lake City because it was pouring down rain. The rest of the weekend we spent mostly hanging out at Andrea's friends Carl's apartment. His roommate had a projection screen so we were able to watch movies on the big screen, and were able to watch conference on a very large scale. Hopefully I'll be able to go to visit Provo again pretty soon. 

A Lovely Sunday Evening

So... my mom informed me that I was in big trouble for not writing on my blog enough.  But the truth is that I really haven't had much to blog about, and for some reason I can't get my picture to upload onto my computer. So I decided to take some pictures with my phone, so they are pretty blurry. Anyways... on sundays we have roommate dinner and take turns cooking. I decided to make shepherds pie and peach cobbler. It was quite delicious if I must say so myself, and now I get to eat leftovers for the next week, always exciting. My roommates Emmilie and laura happened to be sitting there when I was taking  a picture, so they got a picture too..lucky them!

All the amazing things that have happened since I've been to Rexburg.

So Pretty much school has been amazing this semester! First of all, I am now in the interior design program which I am very excited about. I knew that it was a very busy major, but from what I have heard it is going to be an even bigger undertaking then I anticipated. The Saturday before classes started I had an orientation where they told us all about the program. It is actually supposed to be one of the most difficult programs at the school, but it is to prepare us for the actual business. BYU-Idaho actually has one of the best interior design programs in the country (also news to me). The program is accredited by ASID and NKBA, which are both major interior design associations, and employers love getting people from here. What I realized after the first week of classes is how much buisness is involved in interior design. The professors say it is about 10% creativity and 90% business. That means that by the time I graduate I should be able to know everything about having my own business...so that's pretty exciting. On monday the department had an opening social breakfast (which was decorated like a wedding, what else would you expect from design students). At the social the seniors reported on their internships. It was really neat to hear everyone talking about working for huge designers in New York, Washington DC, and all sorts of other huge design areas. It's going to be a ton of work, but I can't wait to do it!

My ward here is also an amazing ward. Since it is my second year living in the same apartment I at least recognize several of the people in the ward, and am friends with a lot of them too. There is such a strong spirit in our ward and the bishoric is amazing. Last sunday for our sacrament meeting we had a musical sacrament meeting where we sang several hymns and heard talks about them. It really brought our ward closer together. Another thing is that our ward has lots of activities. Last week we had a ward FHE and barbecue, this week we had an ice cream social at the park. On monday I had my first FHE with my actual FHE group. We walked down to the park and played get to know you games and chubby bunny (I would have pictures, but unfortunately I can't figure ou

t how to upload them). 

My roommates are totally amazing! We all get along really well and do tons of stuff together. We have a different thing we do everyday...for example...wednesdays are theme days...so each week we'll have a different themed party...or something like that..I'm not quite sure how it works. Not only are my roommates great...but I hang out with my neighbors a tons too. Apartments 203 (my apartment), 204, and 205 might as well just be one big apartment since we are always doing things together. We're tempted to knock out the walls..but unfortunately the manager might not approve. On sunday we had a big breakfast before church and invited our neighbors over, then the next day after FHE we had a poffertje party. It also makes it a lot of fun because some of my roommates from last fall are also my neighbors. Anyway...life is going good... here are some pictures!

Rexburg is Smokin'

So a lot has happened since last time I blogged. I am now in Rexburg and starting school tomorrow. I'm all moved into my apartment and my roommates are all amazing! The only thing that has happened that's a little crazy is today then while we were all getting ready for church than the fire alarm went off. When the fire alarm goes off it means that the whole building has to be evacuated. It always makes the day pretty exciting when you get to see the fire engines and police cars. Luckily they figured out where the smoke was coming from and it wasn't anything too bad. We were able to be back into our apartments within about 15 minutes. Thank you Rexburg Fire and Police!

Last Wednesday Nikki, Andrea and I decided to hop on board the first flight out to San Francisco and spend the day there. None of us had ever been there so it was a really cool experience to be able to explore a new city and see some of the famous sites that San Francisco is known for. It was neat to see things like China town, Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge (even though the smog was horrible and you could barely see it). It seems so strange to me to see how different every city is and how much personality there is in San Francisco. The day was a ton of fun with shopping, walking, site-seeing, and of course taking the opportunity to eat at In n' Out burger for lunch.

It feels like the summer is winding down, and I feel like I only have a few days off work before it's time to go back to school. There's nothing I love more then spending time at dash point and playing a rousing game of rummikub. The one thing that I miss so much when I go to Idaho is the water. I have always been used to  having an abundance of places to go if I ever wanted to be in the water, but in Rexburg the closest you get to a large body of water is the river. So I'm going to take advantage of the beaches and the sun as much as I can before I go back to school. 

Medford!

My family went down to Medford to visit Linda, Mario, Adam and of course baby Tyler. Since Linda and the baby needed a lot of rest we spent a lot of time out and about with Adam. On one of the days then we rented a van and drove down to the redwood forest and the ocean in California. We had lots of fun in the car with Adam taking pictures. Once we got to the beach Adam had a lot of fun running away from the waves. It's always fun to visit Medford, even if it only is for a couple of days.

Rafting at Browns Point

There's nothing I love more on my day off then enjoying the summer sun and doing something water related. Andrea and I both have thursdays off so we usually try to do something fun together that day. The other week we decided to dig through Andrea's garage and bring her inflatable raft to brown's point. We went over to subway to pick up some sandwiches so that we could have a nice little picnic at the beach. After we got the raft inflated we pretty much just floated around in the raft relaxing in the sun. Every once in a while then we would realize that we had drifted pretty far off from browns point and would have to quickly paddle back. There's not many things better in life than the sun, the water, and lots of girly talk with one of your best friends!

Day trip to San Diego

The other week than I decided to finally take advantage of my flight benefits and take a day trip to San Diego. I hadn't seen Jessica in a long time since she had been at school in Idaho during summer semester. Her birthday was July 25 so I decided that it would be a fun little birthday present to go take a day and relax on the beaches in San Diego. We took the bus from the airport to Mission beach. Mission beach is a very busy beach, but is a great place to walk around and go people watching. My favorite part was watching everyone trying to surf and actually see people playing in the ocean, which I am not used to in Washington. Even though I loved the California beaches, I still love the Puget Sound and would never trade the nasty sea weed of Dash point for the white sand of Southern California

Flight ot the Conchords

Tonight at work while I was checking peoples bags, then a guy came up to me who looked exactly like one of the guys from Flight of the Conchords (if you don't know what that is...then it is these 2 comedians from New Zealand who have a TV show). Anyways...after he gave me a New Zealand passport and I realized that the item he was checking was a guitar I thought there was a chance he might actually be the same guy. After confirming the name with wikipedia I found out that it actually was Jemaine Clement from Flight of the Conchords...I thought it was pretty exciting..

July 4th

For the fourth of July a few of my friends and I decided to go to Celebration park to watch the fireworks. This is a tradition that I have done for several years with my family..but this year it seems that there wasn't much family around on the fourth of July...it was weird not having the typical spot on the grass with tons of cousins, aunts, and uncles around..but it was still tons of fun. Before the fireworks started then Keith, Nikki, and I tried to take a picture fitting all three of us..much easier said then done...by the time the fireworks started then we had taken probably 20 pictures....but this is just a snip of some of the pictures and what it took to take them...like holding the camera upside down.

Happy Birthday Ian!

Everyone only turns 19 once. Ian decided to celebrate his big day last weekend, and what better way to celebrate then with a super hero themed party. With the invites , Ian mentioned that if we weren't dressed up he wouldn't let us through the front door. Nikki and I took this threat to heart and decided to dress up like teenage mutant ninja turtles. The party was a ton of fun. Everyone from Superman, to Darth Vader, to Logan Davidson came....I 'm questioning the validity of some of these super heros...but it was all good.

Rattle Snakes Ledge!

The weekend before last I had the opportunity to go on a hike to Rattle Snakes Ledge. It was a singles branch activity and since usually those activities are a lot of fun I decided I didn't want to miss it. It was a beautiful hike not far off from North Bend. The only problem was that it happened to be 95 degrees that day and we started the hike at about 11am....It was very hot!!! Although the hike is only 2 miles up I thought I was going to die after not too long. Finally I made it to the top and it was totally worth the beautiful view. We spent about 40 minutes up there eating lunch and enjoying the view. The pictures don't do it justice, but here they are anyways. I would definitely suggest this hike!

Take me out to the ball game! take 2

So if you read my previous post about International Pirate Day, You'll know that we (meaning me, nikki, danny, bobby, and JJ) were planning on going to the Mariners game that day...but since that didn't work out, we went last weekend. It was a really great day for a Mariners game, the sun was shining and the sky was blue. We played the Washington Nationals (I've been so out of the baseball loop for too long, I didn't even realize this team existed). The game wasn't too exciting (during the Mariner's only run we were out buying 8 dollar hot dogs), and the Mariners ended up losing, but all in all we had a fun time at the ball game. We even got to see some drunk guys get kicked out of the stadium! always fun!
